Site Plan
A site plan is a drawing of a whole property seen from above. It shows the lot lines, the footprint of each building, driveways, walkways, utilities, landscaping and the distances between them.
Site plans are usually required for building permits and zoning review, because they show whether a project meets setback, lot coverage and access rules. They often include a north arrow, the lot dimensions and the location of easements.
A plot plan is a similar, often simpler drawing used for the same purpose.
A site plan shows the building footprint, which is the outline on the ground, not the total floor area. A two-storey house can have a footprint about half its floor area.
