Porch
A porch is a covered shelter at the entrance of a building, attached to the outside of the house. It can be open on its sides or enclosed with screens or windows.
Front porches face the street and often hold seating. A screened porch is enclosed with insect screens, and a three-season porch has windows but usually no heat.
A porch differs from a deck, which is usually uncovered, and from a patio, which sits on the ground. A wraparound porch extends along two or more sides of a house.
Open porches, screened porches and other unheated outdoor spaces do not count toward gross living area. They are measured and listed separately. See deck and porch square footage.
