Meter
The meter is the base unit of length in the metric system and the International System of Units (SI). It is defined by the distance light travels in a vacuum in 1/299,792,458 of a second. One meter is about 3.281 feet.
The meter is divided into 100 centimeters or 1,000 millimeters, and 1,000 meters make a kilometer. It is spelled metre in British and international English.
Architectural drawings in metric countries usually give dimensions in millimeters, so a 3.6 meter wall appears as 3600.
When a metric plan shows only numbers without units, they are usually millimeters. Check the title block or drawing scale note before calculating area.
