House Plan
A house plan is the set of drawings used to design and build a house. It typically includes floor plans for each level, exterior elevations, a foundation plan, roof plan, sections and construction details.
House plans can be custom designed by an architect or designer, or bought as stock plans from plan catalogs and companies. Stock plans are often adapted to local codes and site conditions before a permit is issued.
The level of detail varies. Marketing plans may show only room layout and sizes, while construction plans include framing, electrical and plumbing information.
Plan catalogs often list total square footage, but the figure may be calculated differently from appraisal methods. Check whether it includes garages, porches or unfinished space.
