Hallway
A hallway is a passage inside a building that connects rooms and entrances. Also called a hall or corridor, it gives access to rooms without passing through other rooms.
Residential hallways are often around three to four feet wide. Designers try to keep them short, because space used for circulation does not serve as a living area.
An entrance hall, or foyer, is the space just inside the front door that leads to the rest of the house.
Finished hallways are part of the living area and count toward square footage on the floor they serve. Because they are narrow, hallways are easy to leave out when rooms are added up one by one, which is one reason square footage is measured around the outside of the building.
