Floor Plan
A floor plan is a scaled drawing of one level of a building seen from above. It shows walls, rooms, doors, windows, stairs and fixed features, and it usually includes room dimensions or a scale.
A floor plan is drawn as a horizontal slice through the building, typically cut about four feet above the floor so that doors and windows show up in the walls. Standard symbols represent doors, windows, fixtures and appliances.
Plans range from simple sketches used in real estate listings to detailed construction drawings with dimensions, notes and references to other sheets.
Area can be read from a floor plan when it lists dimensions or shows a scale. Listing plans are sometimes not drawn to scale, which is covered in how to read a floor plan.
