Exterior Measurement

Exterior measurement is the method of finding a building's size by measuring along the outside faces of its exterior walls. The result includes the thickness of the walls.

ANSI Z765 uses exterior measurement for single-family detached homes, including detached condos. Attached condominium units are the main exception and are measured from the interior faces of their enclosing walls. Interior measurement gives a smaller number for the same home.
