Dimension Line
A dimension line is a line on a technical drawing that shows the length of something, with the measurement written along it. It ends in arrows, ticks or dots where it meets extension lines drawn out from the object being measured.
On architectural plans, dimensions are usually written in feet and inches, such as 12'-6", and grouped in strings along the outside of the plan: one for overall size, one for wall segments, one for openings. Interior dimensions may run to wall faces or to stud or center lines, which the drawing should state.
A dimension line with a known length is the best reference for setting a plan's scale. See what is a dimension in a floor plan.
