Cubic Foot
A cubic foot is a unit of volume equal to a cube one foot on each side. It equals 1,728 cubic inches, about 28.3 liters, or about 7.48 US gallons. It is abbreviated cu ft or ft³.
Cubic feet are used for room volume, appliance capacity, storage units, concrete and air flow. Heating and cooling equipment is often sized with room volume in mind, since a tall room holds more air than a short one with the same floor area.
Volume for a box-shaped room is length times width times height. A 12 by 15 foot room with an 8 foot ceiling holds 1,440 cubic feet.
