Architectural Drawing
An architectural drawing is a technical drawing of a building or part of one, made to communicate its design. Floor plans, elevations, sections, site plans and details are all types of architectural drawings.
Most architectural drawings are made to a stated scale and follow shared conventions for line weights, symbols and dimensions so that builders, engineers and officials can read them the same way. A set of drawings usually has a title block on each sheet naming the project, the sheet and the scale.
They were drawn by hand for centuries. Today most are produced with CAD or BIM software.
Only drawings made to a known scale can be measured directly. The scale is usually printed near the title or under each view, as explained in floor plan scale explained.
