How to get measurements from a floor plan?

There are three methods, depending on what you're holding. If the plan is dimensioned, read the dimension lines directly; the labeled numbers tied to walls are authoritative. If it's a printed drawing with a stated scale (1/4" = 1' is standard), use an architect's scale ruler on the paper, though this only works on original-size prints, since any resize breaks the ratio.

If it's a digital image, screenshot, listing PDF, or resized copy (the most common case today), neither method works, and you need digital calibration: identify one dimension you trust, such as a labeled wall, a standard 36-inch entry door, or a bathtub (5 feet), and scale everything else from that reference.
