Can ChatGPT design a floorplan?

ChatGPT can help you think through a floor plan, but it cannot produce a usable one. It can suggest room layouts, discuss flow and adjacencies, and generate rough text descriptions or simple diagrams, but it has no spatial engine, so its outputs regularly contain impossible geometry: rooms that overlap, walls that don't align, dimensions that don't add up, and doors that open into nothing. AI image generators have the same problem, producing plans that look plausible at a glance but fail basic checks like consistent scale.

For an actual design, you need dedicated floor plan software (or an architect) where geometry is enforced.
