How many rooms is 500 sq ft?
Typically two to three rooms plus a bathroom. At 500 sq ft you're in studio or one-bedroom apartment territory. A studio layout treats it as one main room (around 350-400 sq ft) plus a bathroom and kitchenette. A one-bedroom layout divides it into a bedroom (100-120 sq ft), a combined living/kitchen space (280-330 sq ft), and a bathroom (40-50 sq ft).
Pushing to two bedrooms in 500 sq ft is possible but produces rooms at or near legal minimums (70-80 sq ft) with almost no shared living space, a configuration mostly seen in dense urban markets. Every wall you add also consumes area and requires circulation, so more rooms means less usable space overall. Room count is a layout decision, not a fixed property of the square footage.
If you're comparing 500 sq ft units or planning to reconfigure one, measuring the actual room areas on each floor plan shows you where the space goes. MeasureFloorPlan makes that a five-minute exercise: calibrate the plan, trace each room, compare.
